Child Labour and Education in Emergencies Brief

June 11, 2015

The Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) Child Labour Task Force has produced a briefing paper No to Child Labour, Yes to Quality and Safe Education in Emergencies, with support from the Education Cluster and ILO/IPEC.

In humanitarian contexts child labour can often be a significant barrier for children who wish to access education, yet for many stakeholders the issue is a challenging one to consider and act upon. This paper has been written not only to draw attention to the importance of close coordination between education in emergencies activities and efforts to address child labour, but also to give practical guidance on what can be done in humanitarian contexts to improve response.

The 2015 World Day Against Child Labour will focus on this very important issue – providing quality education as a key step in tackling child labour.

The briefing paper is available in English (Child Labour and Education in Emergencies), in French (Travail des Enfants et Education en Situations d’Urgence) and in Spanish (NO al trabajo infantil SÍ a una educación de calidad en situaciones de emergencia).
